Hey guys! Sorry, I've been so busy/tired lately that it's taken me awhile to make a new post. :P Anyways, I've been getting a lot of requests about me posting a bullying story and I've decided I will. This is the story of a friend of mine, who was bullied so bad she left school a whole year.
*names changed
So, it all started in 6th grade. She was the new girl at school, and didn't really have any friends yet. For a while she just went through classes normally. Sure, she was quiet, but she made really good grades. Well, one day a boy in her class named *Bill was nice to her. Starting the next day, a mean-girl named *Ashley started bullying her. She called her names, tripped her, even made her whole homeroom hate her.
You see, the thing my friend didn't know at the time, was that Ashley had a HUGE crush on Bill, and apparently didn't want any 'competition', even through my friend didn't like Bill at all.
The bullying went on all through that school year. The girl got quieter and quieter, her grades dropped, and her self-esteem vanished. She thought the world hated her, even though a certain boy named *Arthur who knew her from 4th grade had a crush on her. That year, she faced immense trouble with every boyfriend she got. Her first boyfriend *Noah, cheated on her because she wouldn't kiss him, and then dumped her. Over halfway through the year, a boy named *Ray got her to trust him. They dated a month or 2, and he cheated on her. They broke up the next day. Finally, a boy who she had kinda liked awhile asked her out the last 2 weeks of school. They dated those few weeks, and she didn't get to talk to him all Summer. In other words, he ignored her, so she assumed they were broken up.
That Summer, she did things she's not proud of. Things that she's afraid to tell even her BEST friend, because she's afraid if he knew, he would leave her all by herself. She did the things she did because her self-esteem had dropped so low. She even has trouble with it today. The things she did lasted all Summer. During that time, she talked with *Arthur, and found out that he was the best guy she had ever met. He didn't lie to her, didn't pressure her to do anything, and didn't ignore her. They dated for the last month or so of Summer.
Flash forward to the first day of school. My friend wasn't there, because she was at a building she had never been to before. It's the place you go if you do something illegal and you're a minor. It wasn't Jail/Prison, but it may as well have been. She had to talk to a detective, and explain all the painful things done that Summer. Thousands of tears, a few tissues, and a long hard talk later, she was able to finally leave. They investigated everything that happened, and eventually, her family stopped bringing it up.
The next day she went to school. It was her first day in 7th grade, and the day before she had been yelled at by a cop. What a great start, right? As soon as she got there, people were asking her where she had been the day before, and why she wasn't at school. She had to lie to some of her best friends, and say she was sick. In a way, that was true, because the day before she had felt so sick to her stomach, she nearly threw-up.
Not long after, everyone was pressuring her to break up with Arthur. They bullied her even worse, until she let her friend write him a note, saying she had to break up with him. Turns out, a friend was a lot meaner than she had thought. After that, Arthur didn't speak to her for a really long time. It wasn't until a lot later, that she realized that it was because of the mean note.
Arthur wasn't speaking to her, so she got back together with the guy who had ignored her all summer. She didn't want to, though. She only did because that's what all the bullies told her to do. They dated a few weeks, before he moved to a whole different state. About a week after they broke up, she left school.
It was halfway through the year, and the bullying had really gotten to her. She just couldn't take the stress anymore.
She stayed in homeschool the rest of 7th grade. That summer, she explained to Arthur why she had broken up with him. He understood, and said that despite that, he still loved her. They got back together and have been together since.
Anyways, my friend had thought about coming back to school at the start of 8th grade, but given the fact that driving by the school, or even seeing it in a picture made her shake and made her feel sick, she quickly decided against that. Arthur could tell she didn't want to go back, so they made it work.
Halfway through 8th grade, Ashley left the school and moved. Nobody knew why, but she didn't care. At the start of the 2nd semester, she rejoined. The rest of her 8th grade year was great. She found a great group of friends, was still going strong with Arthur, and she wasn't bullied anymore.
If you haven't realized by now, the girl wasn't actually a friend of mine.
It was..... Me. I was bullied, tormented, humiliated, etc. for all that time. I'm now going into my 9th grade year, and I couldn't be happier. Sure, I still have some issues I have to work out, but I'm finally healing. It's taken me a long time to write this, considering not even my best friend ("Arthur") knows what really happened. I'm hoping he will read this and forgive me.
I know this was a long piece, but I really had to get this off my chest. I've realized that if I keep my hurt locked inside, all it'll do is tear me apart. The only way it can help is if I share my story, and hope that people can learn and be healed by it.
I hope you see the pain caused by bullies, and you learn that even the smallest thing can hurt someone deeply.
Stay Beautiful, Stay Strong,
Abbie <3
